License Pavilion Set Up on Shanghai Int’l Franchise Expo

Shanghai International Franchise Exhibition, sponsored by CCFA will be held in Shanghai From September 28-29, and to attract more licensors, a “licensing pavilion” will be set up this year. Concurrent with the show is the 2008 Int’l Franchise & License Investment Forum, aiming to promote development of licensing industry in China.
As the mainland is becoming the world’s fastest-growing market for licensed goods, with industry revenue almost doubling, to US 1.3 billion in 2006, from 2001. Especially for Yangtze River Delta region, as the main gathering place of China manufactures, this region became the first choice for those brand licensing companies from China and abroad to choose a major regional partner.

From 2nd-4th July, China Chain Store & Franchise Association representative visited the Hong Kong International Licensing Show at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. The three-day show is organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and sponsored by the International Licensing Industry Merchandises’ Association (LIMA). LIMA is also co-organizer of the Premier Asian Licensing Awards, which spotlights outstanding industry players in Asia.
 
This year’s licensing show features a broad spectrum of categories, including animation, arts and design, entertainment, fashion and apparel, sports and professional services. Highlights include the Lifestyle Pavilion, which focuses on fashion brands, and the Hong Kong Character Hall, which showcases characters and figurines selected for their marketing potential. The Digital Entertainment Zone highlights the latest trends in digital content. Group pavilions from the China Mainland, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and United Kingdom feature brands from different countries and regions.
 
Concurrent events also include the HKTDC Hong Kong International Licensing Conference. At the conference, attendees can glean the latest information on licensing issues in the mainland market, including brand extension and IPR protection.
