Wal-Mart China launched “Earth Month” activity in Shanghai recently, with the theme of creating green and fresh communities.
This was the third year that Wal-Mart set up such an event as a response to “Earth Hour” program initiated by World Wildlife Fund. The supermarket retailer will hold such activities in Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Dalian and Kunming.
During the event, Wal-Mart planned to shut down one third of its lighting in all stores concerned 8:00-9:00 and 13:00-14:00 in April, day parts which were not very busy. It was estimated that a total of nearly 500,000 kilowatt hour would be saved given that one third of Wal-Mart Supercenters have installed LED lighting. |
