China Sustainable Retail Roundtable Kickoff

As co-initiators of China Sustainable Retail Roundtable (CSRR), China Chain Store & Franchise Association (CCFA) and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) held the launching ceremony of China Sustainable Retail Roundtable (CSRR) on March.21 in Beijing.

The members of CSRR, including the president, General Secretaryof CCFA, the MTI China Director of WWF, Lianhua Supermarket, Gome Home Appliance Electricity, China Resources Vanguard, RT-Mart, Carrefour China, Wal-mart China, Tesco China, Metro China, AEON China, IKEA China and P&G China; and the observersof CSRR, including China Soybean Industry Association, China Aquatic Products Processing and Marketing Alliance, StichtungSolidaridad, ISEAL Alliance, Marine Stewardship Council, Forest Stewardship Council, IGD, RUC School of Environment andResource; as well as  the strategic partnerMOTOROLA system China all attended the launching ceremony.
 The charter of CSRR was adopted in principle, and the working plan of 2013-2015 were discussed on the ceremony.
CSRR is a voluntary, non-profit, self-governing organization. jJointly initiated by China Chain Store & Franchise Association (CCFA) and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF),and strategically partneredby MOTOROLA system China,CSRR is joined by leading retailers registered in China, retail business suppliers, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and other multi-stakeholders. CSRR Secretariat is responsible for liaison and daily management. CSRR shares better management practice among its members, and promotes sustainable production and consumption of key commodities that will optimize the social and economic benefits of environment protection.
To advocate that human production and consumption shall meet the law of sustainable exploration and use of natural resources, CSRR will facilitate its member companies to incorporate the idea and long term plan of sustainability in terms of harmonious environmental, economic and social development into their business strategy; motivate its member companies to achieve sustainable sourcing, energy efficiency and low-carbon objectives to transform the retail market into a sustainable one.
To encourage member companies to procure, use and sell environment-friendly, sustainable products; to get involved in business operation in an energy-saving and low carbon-emission way; to push forward the transformation of Chinese retail industry onto a sustainable development path; to ensure the sustainable use of natural resources in key global ecological regions with high conservation values; and to realize sustainable and harmonious development of retail industry on environmental, social and economic fronts, CSRR will
1.  Discuss and agree on common vision and objectives for developing a sustainable retailing sector in China.
2.  Develop, practice and promote the use and adoption of sustainability guidelines and standards.
3.  Support the energy efficiency management of retailers.
4.  Facilitate greening the supply chain of retailers in terms of sustainable commodity sourcing and retailing.
5.  Establish constructive dialogue among governments, NGO, producers, suppliers, retailers, research & academia and consumers on sustainable production and consumption.
CSRR will fulfill the responsibility and rights of members of the roundtable, share the best resources we have, support the rotating president of roundtable together with partners and stakeholders, to  lead sustainable development of retail business in China and around the world.
